at den Atelier Doors: 7:00 pm

These weird Alaskan 3-piece is making brilliantly ambitious avant-indie rock that’s like anything you’ll hear all year! Their current release Church Mouth is an unprecedented masterpiece, beautifully serene, with a vision and a mystic quality. Psychedelic and bluesy prog rock with howling melodies, haunting background vocals/chants/interplay and 70s-flavoured organs. Elements of Led Zeppelin, The Mars Volta, The White Stripes, Wolfmother and Blind Melon pop up throughout. But Portugal. The Man’s ambitious journeys are succinct and accessible. With an average track length of about 3:30, they hit you quickly with several, hook-filled ideas and move on. Church Mouth is tremendously consistent and eclectic and Portugal. The Man are one of the premier rock bands of the year. Check them out if you’re into real quality!
