Back in the year 2000, the French band Phoenix was following a wave of Gallic cool led by friends Daft Punk and Air. Nearly 10 years on and this casually chic group has grown into something truly unique. The latest release, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, proves they are real pleasure-pushers, filling tunes with riffs, phrases, and beats a five-year-old could love. Phoenix is an established indie band writing songs about love that are armed with hooks primed for a mainstream embrace. The guys are drawing elements from an eclectic ’80s upbringing to arrive at the most sensationally refreshing rock-synth sound of 2010.
