There’s something heartening about a band following an old-fashioned trajectory of slogging it out for a few years before pushing on to the big leagues. Like Muse, who just kept getting bigger before anyone noticed that they were playing two nights at Wembley, Simon Neil and the Johnston twins are now officially a Big Deal. The current Only Revolutions is an album that should only reinforce that notion. After 2007’s Puzzle, the Ayrshire band have recorded their fifth album in seven years and the result is a huge, polished brute of a record. The melodies are instant, the hooks as hefty as Nikolay Valuev’s – this is a big, obvious, step forward. It may well be the last time you’ll see them play a club, so…
