ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

For the first time ever, Francis Ford Coppola’s timeless masterpiece The Godfather(1972) will be shown on a wide screen in HD whilst Nino Rota’s immortal score is performed live by a symphony orchestra. The Godfather Live is a celebration of the digitally re-mastered cinematic classic that is regularly cited as one of the greatest films ever made.  The multi-generational saga tells the story of the Corleones and their rivalry with other New York crime families between 1945 and 1955, as the title character (Marlon Brando) hands over the reins of power to his youngest son (Al Pacino). Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture, Paramount Pictures’ The Godfatherhas been named the greatest film ever made by Empire Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and Metacritic. It is currently ranked at number two in IMDB’s list of the all-time greatest films.

The film’s iconic score was composed by Nino Rota and is acknowledged as one of the most recognizable film scores ever written. The Godfather soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition written specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television.

American conductor/producer Justin Freer will bring Rota’s unforgettable score to life. Freer gave his professional conducting debut at age sixteen, and was mentored by legendary composer/conductor Jerry Goldsmith.

The performance in Luxembourg will be performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, founded in 1999 by Johan Rycken, and consists of a selection of internationally renowned musicians, who besides their joint love for chamber music, are often praised as soloists.
