Seasick Steve is a fantastically compelling and charismatic performer. Cut the crap about him having been a hobo with a life spent sleeping rough and jumping freight trains through the Mississippi delta. That's a very marketable backstory, but the guy is actually a former session musician. And a brilliant one at that, thrashing trance-inducing riffs from his battered, three-stringed electric guitar, like a white descendant of John Lee Hooker. Keepin' The Horse Between Me And The Ground is his latest release. When his amp emits an ugly hum, he thumps it like a temperamental telly. Suffice to say: you don’t get that off Beyoncé.
